At Jungheinrich we are convinced that there is a major paradigm shift underway in the value-added chain, i.e. a move towards reducing the degree of vertical integration. By this we mean that we don't develop our own solution for each and every little problem, but rather we manage and manipulate the various solutions and partial solutions that are already out there on the market. In other words, it is increasingly the norm for manufacturers to buy in supplies rather than make their own. As this occurs, purchasing is moving away from its traditional, perhaps even marginal role of buying component parts. It is developing into a precision tool for targeted supplier management, and as such is fast becoming a key driver of profitability.
