Spare Parts Distribution Center Kaltenkirchen
Our central spare parts warehouse featuring 22,000 square metres of storage space with over 75,000 warehouse items stored in 110,000 storage slots.
On 6 September 2013 our new Spare Parts Distribution Center was officially inaugurated. 250 staff members moved from the old site in Norderstedt to the new location in Kaltenkirchen. As a general contractor for integrated logistics systems, we at Jungheinrich planned, developed and realized our own distribution center just north of Hamburg. The actual construction period lasted only 18 months.
Delivery and availability: More than 98 % availability of spare parts – anytime, anyplace
Our new distribution center is based on an original logistics approach, which enables us to deliver spare parts on a daily basis to more than 4,500 Jungheinrich service technicians, 70 sales partners and regional warehouses worldwide in more than 100 different countries. Thus, the foundations are laid to further improve our performance according to the market requirements of a year-round 24/7 delivery service.
Highly automated distribution center on 22,000 square meters
With an investment volume of more than 35 million Euro, our Spare Parts Distribution Center in Kaltenkirchen constitutes a major project. Built on a property of 65,000 square meters, the center stretches across 22,000 square meters and accommodates 75,000 spare parts on approximately 110,000 storage spaces. A fully automated small parts as well as a high rack pallet warehouse with a maximum height of 31 meters harbor 80,000 and 20,000 storage spaces, respectively. On average 7,300 order items and 8,000 spare parts items are shipped to America, Central Europe and Asia from Kaltenkirchen on a daily basis. With this, Jungheinrich sets a new standard within spare parts logistics. It enables us to strengthen our position in the business and to increase the availability of spare parts for our clients around the world to 98 %.
Future-proof careers at our Spare Parts Distribution Center
On more than 4,000 square meters of open office space, the global Jungheinrich spare parts distribution is being controlled and monitored. “The open office approach allows for transparent and direct lines of communication among colleagues. Incoming orders can be processed more efficiently and clients receive their orders more quickly,” Stefan Brehm, Vice President After Sales, Jungheinrich Service & Parts AG & Co. KG, explains referring to the structure of the premises and the future-proof employment possibilities.
We realized this major project with inhouse forces
Our inhouse division Logistics Systems played a key role in directing and realizing the entire project. The planning and project management as well as the realization phase of the construction occurred in close cooperation with our Spare Parts Logistics division and our Sales Center Northern Germany. The Warehouse Management System (WMS) as well as the entire control system complement the integrated logistics solution based solely on inhouse Jungheinrich products.
