My internship at Jungheinrich: Expectations exceeded and valuable experience gained

In her internship report, Lucia describes how she gained comprehensive insights and valuable experience at Jungheinrich – far beyond her expectations.

As a psychology student, I had the privilege of completing my bachelor's degree internship in the Human Resources department in the Training and Internship Management division at Jungheinrich's corporate headquarters in Hamburg-Wandsbek.

My search for an internship at the time led me to a job advertisement on Indeed. I then took a look at Jungheinrich's internship page, which immediately convinced me. It was obvious that Jungheinrich takes internships very seriously and has extensive expertise in this area.

During my internship, which lasted more than six months, I was mainly responsible for internships and dual study programmes. Towards the end, I also gained insights into HR marketing.
My tasks included creating and posting job advertisements, reviewing applications and scheduling interviews with applicants in close cooperation with the departments. Furthermore, I was responsible for contract drafting, works council consultations and reference writing. In the area of dual study programmes, I prepared selection procedures, participated in them and also conducted job interviews independently.
A significant part of my work consisted of supporting the interns. I welcomed new interns through introductory meetings and organised regular meetings and events to create networking opportunities. I enjoyed the varied activities of my internship. It was a valuable experience to get to know recruitment processes and reference writing from the other side, while at the same time having a good work-life balance thanks to the personal support of my team.

One outstanding experience during my internship was undoubtedly the Christmas party. It was a fantastic event with food trucks, live music, a photo booth and mulled wine. The factory tours at the various sites in northern Germany were equally impressive. These events not only helped me get to know Jungheinrich and the corporate culture, but also provided a great opportunity to interact with other colleagues, enabling me to build lasting relationships with other departments and locations.
My expectations of the internship, to learn new things and take on responsibility, were exceeded. From the very beginning, I was involved in all processes, allowed to learn everything and try out different things. I was able to take on a lot of responsibility, particularly in the area of intern management and conducting interviews independently. It was encouraging to see that my career aspirations were always taken into account and supported. Jungheinrich is a strong employer that offers its employees numerous opportunities, whether in terms of further training, career development or flexible working hours. The long average length of service at the company confirms the positive working atmosphere.

I would definitely recommend an internship at Jungheinrich. Not only does it offer insights into how a large corporation works, but it also teaches important values such as safety and appreciation. The atmosphere within the team was always characterised by respect and support, which made my internship particularly enjoyable. The opportunity to accompany many interns from their first day to their last allowed me to make lots of contacts. Various networking opportunities such as events, factory tours and joint lunches helped us to get to know each other better outside of work.
