Redesign of the Jungheinrich 1i series: More efficiency, compactness and safety

With a comprehensive technical redesign of its most successful pallet and double-deck trucks, Jungheinrich is taking the 1i series to a new level of performance.

  • Up to 130 mm shorter vehicle front for safe manoeuvring in the tightest storage areas
  • Scalable lithium-ion energy concepts with integrated chargers for convenient charging and reduced downtimes
  • Ergonomically optimised operating concepts for faster training and fewer operating errors
  • New safety and assistance options for active accident prevention and protection of people and goods

Hamburg – High handling pressure, rising storage costs and an increasing shortage of personnel characterise the internal material handling. The redesign of the Jungheinrich 1i series addresses these challenges across all series with a clear focus on efficiency, compactness and user-friendliness.

“Our customers are under enormous pressure to maximise productivity while space and personnel resources are limited,” explains Jörn Mentzel, Global Portfolio Lead Pallet Truck, Double-Deck Stacker & Hand Pallet Trucks at Jungheinrich. “With the redesign of the 1i series, we have technically enhanced our high-volume models so that they offer further added value in precisely this area – including greater manoeuvrability, better energy availability and intuitive operating concepts.”

Significantly more compact design for greater space efficiency

A key element of the redesign is the significant reduction in the L2 dimension across the entire series. The front length of the EJE 114i-120i electric pedestrian pallet truck has been reduced by up to 61 mm, depending on the version. The EJE C20i is up to 87 mm more compact than its previous version. The optimisation is particularly significant in the ride-on models: The ERE 120i/125i is up to 130 mm shorter, while the ERD 120i is up to 110 mm shorter. The EJD 120i double-deck pedestrian stacker is also up to 152 mm more compact, depending on the battery configuration.

This is possible thanks to a restructured battery space concept with integrated lithium-ion batteries and a compact battery cover. For operators, this means tighter curve radii, less manoeuvring effort and more usable storage space – especially in branches, block warehouses or in the truck loading and unloading area.

Scalable lithium-ion technology for maximum availability

All vehicles in the 1i series are consistently configured for lithium-ion technology. Depending on the model, battery capacities range from 50 Ah to 200 Ah.

The charging system can be configured flexibly to meet individual customer requirements. Customers can choose between integrated chargers with 15 A, 35 A or 70 A and an interface for external high-performance chargers, enabling 320 A convenience charging. The integrated charger and charging interface can also be configured together. Depending on requirements, customers then benefit from flexible intermediate charging at any standard socket or from extremely short charging periods. “The combination of compact dimensions, different battery capacities and charging concepts enables our customers to select a precise configuration for their actual usage requirements,” says Jörn Mentzel. “This reduces investment costs, lowers energy consumption and minimises unplanned downtime.”

Intuitive operation for seamless pallet transport

The redesign emphasises simple, safe operation. The new TechUpgrade tiller head on the EJE 114i-120i, EJE C20i and EJD 120i features a modern design with an optimised drive switch and a rocker switch. This makes handling easier and ensures precise control.

The ERE 120i/125i and ERD 120i ride-on vehicles feature the revised smartPILOT operating concept with automatic centring. The ergonomically optimised driver's platform with rounded side pads supports a health-friendly side-driving position, increases comfort on longer transport routes, and offers optimum three-sided protection with solid steel side walls within the vehicle contour.

This is complemented by options such as a Pre-Op Check for a systematic vehicle check before the start of a shift, USB interfaces for mobile devices and optional assistance functions. These include, for example, silentDRIVE, automatic mast tracking on the EJE C20i or truck sensor, with this feature the vehicle automatically reduces its speed when entering the lorry trailer and optionally switches on the work lights. This prevents collisions and the operator benefits from optimum visibility.

More safety in daily operation

Alongside efficiency and ergonomics, the focus was also on safety. New options such as foot protection strips or a floor spot projected onto the floor on platform vehicles increase visibility and reduce the risk of collisions in high-traffic areas. The revised option holder and the load protection grid have a more robust design and are fully integrated into the vehicle contour, which prevents damage to goods and infrastructure.

With the technical redesign of the 1i series, Jungheinrich demonstrates how proven platforms can be further developed in a targeted manner to meet customer challenges in the best possible way – through higher handling capacity and space utilisation, maximum availability and increased safety for operators and transported goods.
