Jungheinrich is the winner of the German Sustainability Award for Companies 2026. The award was handed over last Friday during a festive awards ceremony at the Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf (Germany). Around 2,000 guests from business, politics and society attended the event.
Hamburg/Düsseldorf – Jungheinrich has received the German Sustainability Award, one of the most significant European honours for outstanding ecological commitment. This achievement underscores the material handling company’s pioneering role and its consistent strategy of aligning economic success with sustainability. Jungheinrich prevailed over three other well-known finalists: Dematic GmbH, Georg Fischer AG and Schindler Holding AG.
The expert jury particularly emphasised Jungheinrich’s focus on electric and emission-free drives as well as the continuous research and development of modern material handling solutions. The company’s ambitious sustainability strategy, its commitment to the circular economy and the industrial remanufacturing of forklift trucks were also rated positively. Jungheinrich is pursuing the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and has already implemented systematic measures to reduce emissions in Scope 3, for example by selecting more sustainable materials and optimising logistics processes. The company also prioritises the industrial refurbishment of its forklift trucks, which makes a significant contribution to climate protection. Life cycle analyses show that the use of so-called JUNGSTARS saves around 80 per cent of CO2e emissions compared to new production.
“This award belongs to our employees worldwide. They are the driving force behind Jungheinrich’s commitment to greater sustainability. This is a crucial aspect for us and will continue to shape Jungheinrich’s future. The German Sustainability Award therefore serves as a confirmation of our strategic direction and, at the same time, as an incentive to continue our path with determination,” says Dr Lars Brzoska, CEO of Jungheinrich AG.
Following its fourth consecutive Platinum Medal from the international CSR rating agency EcoVadis, the German Sustainability Award once again affirms Jungheinrich’s position as a true Sustainability Enabler in the material handling industry.
The German Sustainability Award is regarded as the most prestigious distinction for sustainable development in the German-speaking region. It has been awarded annually since 2008 by the German Sustainability Award Foundation in cooperation with partners such as the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
