The achievement underscores the Hamburg-based material handling company’s consistent strategy of aligning economic success with environmental and social sustainability.
Hamburg/Düsseldorf – Following its nomination as a finalist, Jungheinrich has been named the winner of the German Sustainability Award for Companies in the Lifting and Conveying Technology category. Europe’s largest accolade for ecological and social engagement recognises Jungheinrich’s leading role in driving sustainable transformation. The company prevailed over three other well-known finalists: Dematic GmbH, Georg Fischer AG and Schindler Holding AG.
With its innovative product and service portfolio, Jungheinrich supports businesses worldwide in making their warehouses efficient, circular-ready and safe. A particular focus lies on solutions that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions along the entire value chain. For example, the company’s energy-efficient lithium-ion technology cuts CO₂e emissions generated over a vehicle’s full lifecycle by an average of 10 per cent. Another example is the company’s JUNGSTARS range of reconditioned used trucks. Lifecycle analyses show that their use saves around 80 per cent of CO₂e emissions compared with new production.
The company’s own operations are also undergoing continuous transformation. As of today, 81 per cent of Jungheinrich’s global electricity demand is covered by renewable energy sources – and the trend is rising. In its supply chain and occupational safety management, Jungheinrich has also reached key milestones: 78 per cent of the relevant purchasing volume is already covered by a sustainability self-assessment, while the Lost Time Injury Rate has been reduced to 11.4.
Measures such as these form part of a comprehensive climate management strategy. Jungheinrich pursues ambitious, Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated goals covering all emission categories (Scope 1 to 3). The company is thus committed to consistently reducing emissions not only in its own operations but also along upstream and downstream value chains.
Following its fourth consecutive Platinum Medal from the international CSR rating agency EcoVadis, the German Sustainability Award once again affirms Jungheinrich’s position as a true Sustainability Enabler in the material handling industry.
“This award belongs to our employees worldwide. They are the driving force behind Jungheinrich’s commitment to greater sustainability. This is a crucial aspect for us and will continue to shape Jungheinrich’s future. The German Sustainability Award therefore serves as a confirmation of our strategic direction and, at the same time, as an incentive to continue our path with determination,” says Dr. Lars Brzoska, CEO of Jungheinrich AG.
The German Sustainability Award is regarded as the most prestigious distinction for sustainable development in the German-speaking region. It has been awarded annually since 2008 by the German Sustainability Award Foundation in cooperation with partners such as the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The award ceremony will take place on 4 and 5 December at the Maritim Hotel in Düsseldorf, attended by around 2,000 experts from business, politics and society.
