From performance to economy: How we have evolved our portfolio of used trucks
How do you find the right used forklift truck for your specific application? In this interview, Tino Alban and Michael Heuer explain exactly what lies behind our new JUNGSTAR Economy and how our customers will be able to select the right forklift truck for their needs even more precisely in future.
Discussions with our customers often revolve around the same question: Which used forklift is really right for my application – technically, economically and in the long term? Not every application places the same demands on a vehicle. While some forklifts run in multi-shift operation, others are used much less intensively.
Based on this observation, we have further developed our used truck portfolio and introduced JUNGSTAR Economy, a second, clearly defined standard for the reconditioning of forklifts.
Tino Alban, plant manager in Dresden, and Michael Heuer, head of customer service at the Used Equipment Centre in Dresden, explain what this means in concrete terms and which standard is suitable for which application profiles.
Why have we further differentiated our range of used trucks?
Tino Alban: Our aim is to ensure that every customer gets exactly the vehicle that suits their requirements. With JUNGSTAR Performance and JUNGSTAR Economy, we offer two clearly defined standards for refurbished forklifts. This allows customers to make an informed decision about which solution is right for their application – instead of paying for performance they don't need.
What distinguishes JUNGSTAR Economy from JUNGSTAR Performance?
Michael Heuer: First and foremost, safety is the top priority for both standards. Not every customer needs maximum performance – but everyone expects a reliable and safe used forklift.
With JUNGSTAR Economy, safety-relevant components are always replaced – without exception. We check other components specifically and replace them if necessary. We partially refurbish the vehicles visually instead of completely repainting them. This reduces costs and makes JUNGSTAR Economy particularly attractive for less intensive use.
For which customers is JUNGSTAR Economy the right choice?
Michael Heuer: The decisive factors are budget and application profile. If a forklift truck is in continuous use over several shifts, we clearly recommend JUNGSTAR Performance.
If usage is less intensive, JUNGSTAR Economy is an economical alternative – without compromising on safety.
What role does sustainability play in used forklifts?
Tino Alban: A very big one. Our JUNGSTARS stand for the responsible use of resources. By refurbishing high-quality forklifts, we extend their service life and reduce the need for new production – an important contribution to sustainable intralogistics.
How does refurbishment as a service fit into this concept?
Michael Heuer: Very well. With refurbishment as a service, we refurbish forklifts that are already owned by our customers. A good example is the pasta manufacturer La Molisana: there, we gradually refurbished the entire fleet without significantly disrupting ongoing operations.
The customer keeps its fleet, saves on a new tender and receives technically and visually refurbished forklifts – an approach that ideally combines economy and sustainability.
What is the most important message about JUNGSTAR Economy?
Tino Alban: Used does not mean compromise. With JUNGSTAR Economy, we offer a tested, safe and economical used forklift – exactly when maximum performance is not required.
Or in other words: used, but just right.
