With the new EFG 5, Jungheinrich is launching the next generation of its electric counterbalance trucks in the 4.0 to 5.0 tonne load capacity range.
Hamburg – The new EFG 5 is a powerful electric counterbalance forklift designed for heavy-duty applications. With a load capacity of up to five tonnes at a load centre of 500 or 600 mm and lift heights of up to 7,500 mm, it completes the upper end of the Jungheinrich heavy truck portfolio. It is aimed at customers in the industrial, building materials, beverage, and automotive sectors who have often relied on combustion-engine vehicles to date. The new series enables fully electric heavy truck operations across multiple shifts without any loss of performance, thanks to a robust vehicle design, high power reserves, and drive technology tailored for intensive applications.
“With the new EFG 5, we offer our customers a fully electric solution for applications that have often been dominated by diesel forklifts up to now. The vehicle combines high handling performance with high reliability and is consistently designed for heavy and intensive applications,” says Markus Kaspers, Product Manager at Jungheinrich.
Noticeable performance increase in everyday work
A completely redesigned drive and hydraulic concept ensures up to 15 per cent higher handling performance. High driving dynamics, even under full load, are enabled by two powerful drive motors with high torque and a top speed of up to 20 km/h. The new energy-efficient Synchronous Reluctance Lift Motor Plus (SRM+) ensures fast storage and retrieval processes and also significantly accelerates lifting and lowering movements – ideal for frequent load changes or block storage operations.
Faster, more precise working movements with attachments are enabled by an increase in hydraulic oil flow of around 33 per cent. This means that even large attachments respond quickly and can be moved with controlled precision, even under heavy loads.
The EFG 5 is available in two performance configurations: the efficiencyPLUS configuration focuses on energy-efficient operation at a constant performance level, while drive&liftPLUS is designed for maximum handling performance, with exceptionally dynamic acceleration, higher driving speeds, and faster lifting and lowering movements.
Driver's workplace with a focus on ergonomics and visibility
In addition to significantly higher performance, the new development focused on further improvements to the driver's workplace. Increased driver comfort and fatigue-free working result from around five per cent more foot space, optimised pedal positions, and new seat variants, including premium air-suspension seats. Reduced vibrations and noise levels are enabled by a vehicle cab decoupled from the chassis, significantly reducing vibrations and sound pressure in the driver's compartment – an advantage that should not be underestimated, especially during long operating times and multi-shift operations.
The vehicle structure has been redesigned specifically for safe, productive work processes: 40 per cent slimmer B-pillars and a glass door improve ergonomics and overall visibility. The strut-free panoramic roof window installed in the ECO 1 cab and above provides optimum upward visibility.
Assistance systems for greater safety in heavy-duty applications
The new EFG 5 can be specifically configured for the respective application scenario thanks to a comprehensive portfolio of assistance and safety systems. These include proven functions such as curveCONTROL, driveCONTROL, liftCONTROL, and zoneCONTROL. The optional AI-supported addedVIEW camera system enhances operational safety by actively preventing accidents in complex work areas: It continuously monitors the environment, issues audible and visual warnings, and automatically reduces speed when potential hazards are detected.
“Safety is a key productivity factor, especially in heavy-duty and intensive applications. The EFG 5's assistance systems noticeably reduce the strain on the driver while increasing process reliability in the warehouse and on the company premises,” explains Markus Kaspers.
Wide portfolio for different application requirements
The new series is available with both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries in various sizes. Individual vehicle configurations for different application requirements are available with multiple cab, equipment, and option packages – including dirt packages for outdoor use, additional USB ports, and a sound module.
The launch of the new EFG 5 series is planned for the third quarter of 2026.
