Jungheinrich expands mobile robot system of Magyar Gomba in Hungary

The broadening of the mobile robot system will create an almost fully automated material flow from the growing rooms to the storage and packaging facilities at the company’s site in Demjén, Hungary.

  • Automated material flows from shock coolers to packaging lines
  • Two additional ERC 213a with automatic charging processes
  • Response to shortage of skilled labour in the food industry

Hamburg – Jungheinrich has received a follow-up order from Magyar Gomba Kertész Kft. (KORONA Group) to expand the mobile robot system at its site in Demjén, Hungary. The company is one of the leading mushroom producers in the region and has been successfully operating Jungheinrich automated guided vehicles (AGVs) since 2024. Based on the positive experience with the existing system, Magyar Gomba has decided to further expand the automation solution.

Fully automated material flow from cooling to packaging

At the heart of the expansion are two ERC 213a automated high-lift trucks equipped with lithium-ion technology and automatic charging infrastructure. The mobile robots will take over the transport of loaded pallets from the floor storage stations in the fast coolers to the infeed side of the gravity roller conveyor, and from there to the outfeed side of the buffer storage and on to the packaging lines.

The expanded system comprises 47 new floor stations and 64 rack stations as well as additional driving paths with a length of 180 metres. Linking the new vehicles to the existing fleet creates a seamless, automated material flow capable of handling both Euro and industrial pallets.

The fleet is managed through the Jungheinrich Logistics Interface, which is connected to the customer’s Warehouse Management System (WMS). This enables full digital integration and end-to-end traceability of all transport processes in 12-hour shifts, seven days a week.

Efficient response to rising demands

Building on the positive experience with the Mobile Robots already in operation, Magyar Gomba is also expanding its automation solution in response to increasing demands for process reliability and the shortage of skilled workers.

“With the expansion of the system, Magyar Gomba will achieve an almost fully automated material flow – a prime example of how Mobile Robots can efficiently connect production and packaging processes,” says András Zupán, Project Manager Mobile Robots at Jungheinrich Hungary. “We are delighted to implement a sustainable solution together with our customer to address the challenges of the food industry.”

Commissioning of the expanded system is scheduled for March 2026.
