Sniffer dogs in action: police dogs train at the Jungheinrich spare parts centre in Kaltenkirchen

Full paw power in Kaltenkirchen: our spare parts centre became a training ground for 30 sniffer dogs from all over Germany.

Picture_Dog Frida An unusual location: where spare parts for our customers are normally stored and shipped, there was recently a lot of sniffing going on. Around 30 service dogs from all over Germany – from the police and military to airport security – used our Jungheinrich spare parts centre in Kaltenkirchen for intensive training. On the training schedule: searching for explosives and data carriers. Between shelves, boxes and pick-and-pack areas, the four-legged friends showed complete concentration and impressive tracking skills. Whether Belgian Shepherd or Bavarian Mountain Hound – every dog's nose was put to the test. Frida, a specialist in searching for data carriers, was particularly impressive, tracking down even the smallest clues with remarkable precision.

Long-standing partnership with the police

The Kaltenkirchen spare parts centre has been working closely with the police dog units of the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg since 2013. We regularly make our premises available for training, testing and exercises. This time, in addition to the regional teams, units from Bremen, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg were also present.

"Such collaborations demonstrate how versatile our logistics spaces can be – and that safety and precision are not only important to us, but also to our four-legged guests," says Mathias Lentfer, Vice President After Sales at Jungheinrich.

A resounding success – on two and four legs

The conclusion of those involved was consistently positive: optimal training conditions, smooth organisation and many impressive search results. For us, one thing is clear: when the next exercise comes around, our spare parts centre will be happy to be involved again – as a training ground for real sleuths.
