With the Jungheinrich "Donate your Pennies" campaign, we are supporting two important projects run by action medeor: a new medicine warehouse in Tanzania and medical care measures in Syria. A total of around €37,500 was raised – thanks to many dedicated employees.
A key component of this cooperation is our Jungheinrich "Donate your Pennies" campaign: many Jungheinrich employees voluntarily donate the cents behind the decimal point on their monthly payslips. At the end of the year, Jungheinrich doubles the amount collected – including tax benefits – and passes it on to action medeor. In this way, small amounts are turned into concrete aid projects with a tangible impact.
The Jungheinrich "Donate your Pennies" campaign 2024 raised around €37,500. A significant portion of this sum will go towards expanding a medicine warehouse in Kibaha, a town in Tanzania. Although this East African country is experiencing economic growth, it remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Many people have no access to clean water, electricity or adequate medical care.
The new warehouse in Kibaha significantly improves the storage and distribution of medicines and medical supplies. It not only supplies regional health facilities in Tanzania, but will also serve as a logistics hub for neighbouring countries such as Malawi, Burundi and Rwanda in the future.
Jungheinrich provided two electric pallet trucks (‘Ameisen’) for logistical support on site, which are used daily in warehouse operations. In this way, we combine financial aid with our technological expertise – a sustainable contribution to improving medical infrastructure.
Another part of the donation will benefit people in Syria. Together with its local partner organisation, the Independent Doctors Association, action medeor is implementing several medical projects there: setting up a medicine warehouse, reactivating a health centre in Afrin and renovating accommodation for medical specialists in Aleppo. This aid is essential – because despite the difficult situation on the ground, there is still an urgent need for medical care.
The Jungheinrich "Donate your Pennies" campaign shows how corporate social responsibility (CSR) can be practised in everyday life. Since the initiative was launched, over €380,000 has been donated, supporting numerous health projects around the world.
